How a Private Farewell Works
You choose who attends and how long you would like. Most private viewings last thirty minutes to an hour and are held in a small room, or in our chapel with the doors closed. Some families sit quietly, some pray together, some speak to their loved one alone in turns. Our staff will prepare the room, explain what to expect, and then step out so the time belongs to you.
When Families Choose This
A private farewell is often chosen when:
- Cremation is planned and the family wants time together beforehand
- A loved one is being sent to another state or country for burial
- A public service will be held later, once relatives can travel
- The family is small, or would simply prefer privacy
- Illness or circumstances make a large gathering difficult
Identification Viewings
In some cases a brief viewing is needed so a family member can formally identify their loved one, particularly when a death occurred away from home or when documents are required for international transport. We will explain who needs to be present, prepare you for what you will see, and stay nearby throughout.
